Fork in the Road

Pressure to win sits so heavy.
I squirm with compelling need.
Quicksands of lies from smiling guys.
Desire burns to succeed.

A complex situation.
“What?!”, screams the purple face.
Blurry lines and pulsing grays.
I strive to act with grace.

A fork in the road appears.
You want so much to win.
          Take a moment.
          Trust!
And integrity is yours though the road bends.

Conventional wisdoms have short shelf lives.
I’m hit with sins from my past.
It’s all too easy to fall behind.
How long will I last?

Lie and get away (for now)
Or speak truth and pay the price?
Am I deemed a person of worth,
Or will they say I’m “nice”

A fork in the road appears.
You want so much to win.
          Take a moment.
          Trust!
And integrity is yours though the road bends.
